Making a funny ad is way harder than it sounds. Firstly, humor is subjective. There is nothing worse than a commercial that is supposed to be funny but it is not, so it makes you cringe instead. The ad needs to be understood and relatable to a wider audience, not just you and your close circle. Second, you need to find a proper way of putting some weight in your ad, by incorporating your brand’s core values, its voice, and identity. Otherwise, people would laugh from your funny commercial, but they won’t associate it with your brand.
And how many times has it happened for you to see an ad and have no idea what is it about? You do not want to go about spending money on commercials that won’t increase your brand awareness considerably. Thirdly, your funny ad needs to be worth sharing. It has to have a story behind it, a plotline. Something that will be engraved in your customers’ minds. Something that they will think of instantly when they read or hear about your brand. Your commercial ad should not stop once the video stops. It should continue to live with people for more than just 3 minutes.
